This spot features Amy Poehler playing the stereotypical Angeleno. (i.e. dumb, shallow, celebrity obsessed and pretending to be half their age.) It might actually be the weirdest and most unlikeable character Amy Poehler has played, which makes me wonder why they had her play it in this direction as it suggests Old Navy attracts this type of person.
As far as Old Navy goes, they certainly make the coat stand out in that restaurant. Whenever actors are forced to read lines like "All coats are fifty percent off," or "You can find it in your grocer's freezer," or "Stan's widgets comes with The Nice Guy Price and a thirty day guarantee," I'm willing to bet the copywriter has either checked out, is secretly working on an exit strategy from advertising, or is so beaten down trying to fight his creative directors/account execs or the clients, they've simply given up. When the guy delivers the poison (and believe-you-me, it is poison) it makes me pine for the days when Old Navy had a campy announcer, because at least that was fun. Also last thing, then I'll stop-- #runtooldnavy? The first word I see is "Tool." That must be an art directors' nightmare. Also stop with the hashtags, already.
