BBDO Mexico rips off Fully Flared skate video by Spike Jonze

Our pals at agency spy have found these gems via The Berrics, however, Agency Spy's efforts in reaching BBDO Mexico for comment were fruitless.

The Berrics, which is run by pro skaters Steve Berra and Eric Koston, has posted the entire Snickers commercial on their site calling it "BBDO Atrocity", which should get most skater fans noticing it. (Also, it's better quality so you might as well check it out there).

Let's see what all the fuss is about, shall we? Three films inside!

BBDO Mexico for Snickers -

The translation on this one is something close to:
"Life is full of obstacles.
When you pass one, along comes another,
And then another one, and then another one.
And they come even more difficult.
Sometimes I think life will be full of challenges.
I hope so, because I am hungry for more."

Fully Flared - created by Lakai, directed by Ty Evans, Spike Jonze and Cory Weincheque. Wikipeda entry on Fully Flared (which should tell you not to mess with it). For those of you who haven't seen this yet, turn the volume up and make yourselves comfortable, this is quite enjoyable.

Bonus, some people reckon this Chevy ad is borrowing heavily from the above skate video as well. The memo has been sent, do not touch this soundtrack if you're going for slow-mo exploding stuff.

Agency spy says in their Thou Shall Not Steal From Spike Jonze:

Now, nothing is original. However, does that mean that agencies can co-opt an important piece of a culture for their own ends? Inspiration or not, the decision by BBDO Mexico to use the exact concept is well, just stupid. Think it through kiddos. You aren't just nibbling. You're regurgating.

I say, loves me some slow-mo explosions, please give me many more.
